About the Course

"Fostering an Ecosystem of Physical Activity and Public Health in Singapore"

Sedentary behavior and physical inactivity contribute to significant health and economic burden globally. Consequently, physical activity promotion has become a cornerstone of public health initiatives and policies. While much headway has been made both globally and in Singapore in increasing the pervasiveness of physical activity, it is increasingly recognized that determinants of physical inactivity are numerous, multi-factorial and involve complex interactions. Importantly, there is much that remains to be reviewed, understood, and discussed.
Guided by the WHO Global Action Plan on Physical Activity (2018 - 2030), the course will cover topics such as:
i)  Challenges of physical activity promotion both globally and locally
ii) New approaches adopted to address physical inactivity
iii) Physical activity promotion for different target segments and settings
iv) Role of evaluation, advocacy and policy in health and physical activity promotion

Republic Polytechnic, Health Promotion Board, Sport Singapore and the International Society for Physical Activity and Health (ISPAH) will jointly be hosting the 1st International Course on Physical Activity and Public Health in Singapore from the 18th to the 20th November 2019.

Interesting topics include: Insights to local initiatives like the National Steps Challenge and Exercise is Medicine and the sharing of ideas and lessons from physical activity programs conducted around the world.
